Townhall Meetings, August 2009

Friends,

The time to stand up and be heard in opposition to Socialized Medicine is now. If we remain silent, our nation will likely be socialized in the coming months.

Please join me at the following:

Thursday, Aug. 13, 5 pm, at the Library in St. George, AARP meeting in support of Obamacare. To attend the meeting, you must have RSVP'd, but if you did not, we will be gathering outside on the sidewalk to protest.

Wednesday, Aug. 19, 6 pm, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Democrat-sponsored meeting in support of Obamacare. No RSVP required.

Monday, Aug. 24, 4-6 pm, at Congressman Matheson's Office, 321 N. Mall Drive, Building E, St. George. Everyone should attend this one if you can. We will be meeting with Mike Empey, Matheson's representative.

Our purpose with the visit to Matheson's office is to let him know that we appreciate him opposing the legislation and that we expect him to remain opposed to it. We need to give him hundreds of reasons to do so. Bring a personal letter to deliver to Mr. Empey. I will also have a Petition that we can all sign. The key points for me are that is legislation is unconstitutional, destroys the free market, and eliminates personal freedom in health care.

Parking may be a problem, so come early or plan to walk a block or two.

On each occasion, we need to be peaceful, but serious about defending our freedoms. Shouting matches or violence will not help our cause. You can bring signs to show your opinions. I do have a few Tea Party-related signs left that are available at $5 each.

The media will be invited to cover these meetings, so we need to turn out and show them where we stand.

See you there,

Larry

Tea Party July 4, 2009

Tea Party supporters:

Things are coming together for our Tea Party on July 4th! We will be in the northeast corner of Vernon Worthen Park, with lots of shade, and your choice of picnic tables or grass for sitting. The program begins at 9 am, but come early so you don't miss anything.

I have seven big signs to advertise the Tea Party that I need to get up at good locations around the area. If you have a connection with a business along a major roadway where we could put a sign, please let me know asap.

It's time to help spread the word one last time. Please invite everyone you know to attend.

We'll be getting the word out with an article in the Spectrum Thursday or Friday. And we'll be on the Open Mike show on KDXU 890 AM Friday at 9 am. Call in to express your support! Anyone have a connection with KCSG TV such that you could get me an interview to run Friday night?

This event is going to be like no other. We'll have a live band and the main feature will be a Soap Box, where citizens can step up and spout off for 2 minutes each. We'll boo the crazies (if any come out) and cheer the patriots on!

We will also have a contest for best signs and best costumes, so come prepared to compete.

Many conservative groups will be present to share their messages and petitions, including We The People, the Patrick Henry Caucus, the Citizens Council on Illegal Immigration, veterans groups, the College Republicans, the Republican Women, and the Dixie Republican Forum. So you'll want to walk around and check them all out.

Finally, let me know if you want to host or participate in a "Wave and Honk", with signs along a major intersection on Friday or early Saturday morning.

See you at the Party!

Thanks,

July 4, 2009 - Independence Day Tea Party

Dear Tea Party Supporters:

We are excited to announce that, in conjunction with Tea Party organizers across the country, the Southern Utah Tea Party Committee will be hosting an Independence Day Tea Party on July 4th, at 9 am, at Vernon Worthen Park in St. George. Please mark your calendars now and plan to attend this patriotic gathering to start your celebration of our nation's independence off right!

The theme of this Tea Party is "Voice of the People"--instead of hearing from politicians, we'll hear inspirational messages from regular people who are concerned about the direction our country is headed! Along with patriotic music, we'll have a Soap Box where you can step up and speak your mind. The politicians will be invited to come, listen, and learn.

If you are part of an organization that would like to co-sponsor this event, please email me, as we want all like-minded groups to participate.

So bring your protest signs, a chair or blanket (there will be plenty of room to sit on the grass), an umbrella (if you want shade), and your American Spirit and we'll see you at the park on Independence Day!

Southern Utah Tea Party Report (4/15/09)

We wanted to inform you of the results and post pictures of the Southern Utah Tea Party held in St. George, Utah, on April 15th.

The event was a non-partisan activity coordinated by a committee of approximately 35 people -- representatives from various organizations and private citizens who wanted to participate in a local Tea Party event. Several of the private citizens were independents and moderates looking for an opportunity to create a non-partisan event.

GETTING THE WORD OUT
The committee created a website: www.southernutahteaparty.com and a Facebook page. We sent press releases and announcements to the media and all major groups, including The Chamber of Commerce, and mailing lists of organizations and groups known or represented by committee members. A few days prior to the event, we were on the radio for ONE HOUR discussing the tea parties. The day of the event, we conducted "Honk and Waves" at 4 different major traffic areas during lunch hour to let folks know about the Tea Party being held at 5-7 PM that day.

THE DAY OF THE TEA PARTY
April 15 was a rainy, windy and very cold day. The Tea Party was originally scheduled to be held in a city park, but we rescheduled to an indoor convention hall at the local college. Within a few hours by sending emails, posting on the internet and at the Honk and Waves, we alerted everyone to the change in venue. Even with the change in venue, 2500 people showed up at the college for the Tea Party! There was standing room only in the hall and people were waiting in long lines to get in.

RESULTS & ACTIVITIES
The attendance was around 2500. We had several speakers and great patriotic songs by groups including a Young Republican group from the college. We collected 1500 signatures on a Resolution that has been mailed to President Obama and several key leaders in Congress. At the event, we produced 1200 letters with tea labels that individuals mailed to the White House (these were in addition to the ones sent on April 1).

WHAT NEXT?
Our committee had a "post tea-party" dinner last week and next week we will be having our first official meeting for the Freedom Tea Party on July 4th. We have several great ideas to expand our event to include informative and educational opportunities -- such as booths with articles and pamphlets on each of the precepts of the Constitution, following the book "The 5000 Year Leap".

We're looking for a great draw -- our goal is 10,000 people. Hopefully, we can secure the county fairgrounds as the site!

Respectfully submitted by

Member of the Southern Utah Tea Party Committee and
President of Washington County (Utah) Republican Women
